From November 2016
So I started this women’s training group on Tuesday nights.
My vision with the Atlanta women’s barbell club is that once a week, the girls outnumber the guys at the gym.
My hope is that by removing the financial barrier, and some of the intimidation women may feel about strength training, we’ll attract some ladies who have been curious about barbell training but never got around to trying it.
My goal is to attract like-minded women to train together – women who aren’t afraid to put on some muscle. Maybe you actually WANT to have Angela Bassett arms or you strive to add meat to your thighs.
Or maybe you’ve tried every other kind of training and are desperate to find SOMETHING to help you build a nicer booty.
Selfishly, the women’s barbell club is my way to get some girl time in while training. This year I want to nurture and develop more female relationships in my life, in healthy ways – not surrounded by booze.*

The Atlanta women’s barbell club is not anti-men.
It’s not even the next iteration of Curves gym.
There are dudes training RIGHT NEXT TO US during our sessions.
Sure, we’re giving them unsolicited training advice, collecting phone numbers, and generally ogling them, but it’s JUST locker room talk, you know?**
Yes, we also have a coed barbell club that meets throughout the week in the garage. Boys/NBs, if you wanna join in, please let me know.
I train clients of all genders. But let’s be real – how many men do you know who are secure enough to have a female strength coach? You’d be surprised at how few there are, and at how many give it a try and are pleasantly surprised with the #gainz they find.
Does this club need a name, or do we stick with the boring, yet descriptive Atlanta Women’s Barbell Club? Is Bad Bitches Barbell club too IN YO’ FACE for the non-intimidation factor we want to achieve? What about Lady Boss Barbell Club? Any other ideas? PLEASE HALLLP. Post ’em in the comments, por favor.
*Boozing friends, I love you guys. I’m just taking some time away from alcohol, maybe for good. Abuse over the years has affected my mental and physical health, and until I’m sure I can use it responsibly, I’m gonna stay dry.
**JOKES. Get used to those if you’re going to read my blog. But I feel obligated to leave a serious disclaimer, because of how often gyms become meat markets where you feel unsafe or get harassed (I can’t speak for men, but as a woman this has been my experience). Citadel Nutrition is not one of those gyms. You are safe here.
